Another Murder Ballad

At 5:13 pm I was singing along to PJ Harvey singing along to Nick Cave.

“Get down, get down little Henry Lee…”

If the time we see on clocks were any relevant, I would have known already. And maybe I could turn up the volume and the line would travel the distance.

“GET DOWN, GET DOWN LITTLE HENRY LEE…”

But as it turns out, the clock is meaningless and the distance un- travelable and at 5:17 pm the song, just another murder ballad, had finished.

I hear that at that moment, the time was 10:17 am in a distant town called Blacksburg. Henry Lee had been struck down instead.

  1. I still don’t understand what this is about. But it’s weird because you mention time and space, perhaps how irrelevant they are to us? It’s weird because I’ve written about time and space today as well, perhaps that is why I am so easily able to draw analogies?

Either way: Nick Cave = god.

  2. not everything has to make absolute sense but if you look up Blacksburg on the news i’m sure you’ll make the connection.
yes, time on clocks is irrelevant…

  3. Ah yes – the tragedy. I had only linked it to ‘Virginia’. Didn’t have a clue about Blacksburg.

Well, that’s something you don’t see everyday.
